It functions like a UPS system and will automatically switch to battery power in the case of a power outage. The base does not include an on/off switch and the battery will drain in about 5 hours, even when not in use. It takes 4 hours to charge, and the battery lasts about 4-5 hours when powering the clock only. Since it does not come with a charging cable, users have to use the one that came with their Echo Dot. There have been reports of the battery not fitting properly and slipping out of position. Also, some customers claim the battery does not last long enough, with one user stating it lasted only about 15 minutes after charging overnight. Overall, the All-New, Made for Amazon Battery Base is a handy device that allows Echo Dot owners to take their device with them anywhere and power it without needing an outlet. However, users should be aware of its limitations, and potential issues with fitting and battery life.
